湖石假山最典型的例子便是环秀山庄，园内的湖石假山为中国之最，此山为清代著名叠山大师戈裕良所作；占地仅0．033公顷，高不足7米，但蕴含了群山奔注，伏而起突而怒之气势，表现了岭之平迤，峰之峻峭，峦之圆浑，崖之突兀，涧之潜折谷之深壑等山形胜景，为崇山峻岭名山大川之缩影。
